In diesel-powered construction machinery, emission standards directly affect engine technology and operating cost. The standard class can even determine in which markets and conditions a machine can operate.
Why it matters- Newer standards reduce NOx and particulates with systems such as a particulate filter (DPF) and AdBlue/SCR.
- These systems require regular replenishment and maintenance; they must be part of the buyer's operating plan.
- Some regional regulations may restrict machines below a certain emission class.
A machine whose emission system (DPF/SCR) works properly causes fewer problems in the long run. Warning lights, AdBlue consumption and logged fault codes must be checked.
